Race Meeting 22nd January 2012
Taree held a 12 race program on Sunday in the twilight timeslot, with the weather overcast and threatening to rain which it did about race 9 and stayed that way for the rest of the afternoon. A surprisingly large crowd was on hand to witness the running of the Pub Challenge Final and the final of the Bushland Tavern Australia day Cup.
The Pub Challenge Final, (a maiden Series) over 314m was taken out by the Kane Heuston trained Ref’s Call in 18.54, 2 ¼ lengths ahead of My Girl Skyla with Do Us Proud in third spot. Ref’s Call was representing the Harrington Hotel whose representative has won this series for the previous two years. The Bushland Tavern Australia Day Cup, a non-graded series over 537m saw Elite Spock trained by Albert Zarb from Kempsey in a closely fought finish, salute the judge in 31.80, finishing a neck in front of Tiri Giorgio with Real Drive taking out third place.
The day started with a the Airport Hotel Maiden over 314m and here we saw Hard Sell trained by Larry Croker from Lansdowne first past the post in 18.79, 1 ¼ lengths ahead of Betty Boost It with Miss Buttercake taking home the third place prizemoney. The Old Bar Tavern Maiden over 537m followed and here we saw local trainer Helen Hanson from Nabiac lead in the winner when Waikiki Lea crossed the line 5 ½ lengths ahead of Gadae Tiger in 31.87. Fiddy Sense was third. The Australian Hotel Stakes for 5th grade over 392m was next for decision and in this Our Cool Zac,owned and trained by Brian Smoothy from Killawarra, saluted the judge in 23.06, 1 ¼ lengths ahead of Hill Of Gold with Saucy Susie in third place. The Manning River Hotel Stakes, another 5th grade 392m event saw Miss Kimberly, owned and trained by Vince Cassar from Cundletown score by 5 ¼ lengths over Switch In Time with Red Perimo in third spot.
The Royal Hotel Best 8 over 392m was taken out in fine fashion By It’s Shine Chili, owned and trained by veteran trainer Keith Schmitzer in 22.71, 6 ¼ lengths ahead of Princess Bond with Blue Amigo in third place. The Presidents Plate, a regular monthly feature for 4/5 grade over 537m saw Brian Smoothy with a double for the day when Tearaway bet saluted the judge in 31.91, 2 ½ lengths ahead of Cosmic Kane with Pure Motohome running third. The next for decision was the Harrington Hotel Best 8 over 314m and in this Cashmere Whisper, owned and trained by Diane Craig from Upper Lansdowne was first past the post in 18.15, 5 ¼ lengths ahead of Bentroy with Detective Swift third.
The Exchange Hotel Stakes was for 5th grade over 314m and here we saw Car Crash, trained by Peter Neilson from Maitland, prevail in a close finish, scoring by ½ length in 18.57 ahead of Rosy Mile with Cherokee Lady taking out third place. The Bushland Tavern Supplies Club Stakes for 4/5 grade over 392m saw Risky Fella, owned and trained by Geoff and Fiona Stackman from Jones Island win by 4 lengths in 23.04 with Mystic icon and Topshot Assassin filling the minor places.
The last race for the day the Toohey’s Local Rep Stakes for 5th grade over 314m was run in very dull and wet conditions making it difficult for all concerned. Cashmere Lady, owned and trained by Dianne Craig(giving her a double for the day) was first past the post in 18.62, 2 ¾ lengths ahead of Drinks For me with People Power third.
Taree race again on February 18th , still in the twilight timeslot, with heats of a Blue Paws 5th grade 392m series and heats of n/g 391m Summer Cup.
Race Meeting 14th January 2012
Taree resumed racing in the twilight time-slot, on Saturday after a 5 week break. The track was in excellent condition and a large crowd was in attendance to witness some exciting racing. The weather although looking threatening at times was kind to us.
There were four heats of the Blue Paws Pub Challenge contested (eight of the local hotels are sponsors), for maidens over 314m. The first of these was taken out by Ref’s Call, trained at Deep Creek by Kane Heuston, by 2 ½ lengths in 18.52 ahead of Brooklyn’s Halo with Quasimo Thunder in third spot. The next went the way of first starter Do Us Proud, trained by Jeanette Roche from Kew by 4 ½ lengths in 18.59, Monkey Blues and Kay Cee Charm were the minor placegetters. In heat 3 we saw Zouch owned and trained by Tony Mason from Cardiff score by 5 ½ lengths in 18.59 over Gala Tourist with Cool Missy Cloud in third place. In the final heat My Girl Skyla trained by George Zahra from Killabakh saluted the judge in 18.55, 3 ¼ lengths ahead of Big Whacko with I’m The Rat in third place.
Two heats of the Bushland Tavern Australia Day Cup for non-grade over the 537m distance were run and in the first Elite Spok, trained by Albert Zarb from Kempsey was first past the post in 31.56, 1 ¾ lengths ahead of Elliot Reid with Premiership in third spot. The second heat saw George Zahra lead in his second winner for the day when My Boy Caleb saluted the judge in 31.60, 1 length ahead of Real Drive with Tiri Georgio ¾ length away in third place. The finals of the two events will be run at our next meeting, Sunday 22nd.
The Supporters Club Novice(a regular monthly feature) for 0-1 wins over 537m saw Triple Mus, owned and trained by David Werner from Beresfeild was successful by 1 ¼ lengths in 31.82. Waikiki Lea and Littlre Zin Zin filled the minor places. In the Brumby Lad at Stud Stakes a Best 8 over 314m we saw Chilled Ice, owned and trained by Geoff and Fiona Stackman from Jones Island score by 33/4 lengths in 18.22 ahead of Detective Swift and Queue Jumper.
The Manning River Festival Stakes, a Best 8 over 392m, was taken out by Blue Amigo, owned and trained by Geoff Wall from Lansdowne by 2 ¼ lengths in 22.43. The fast finishing It’s Shine Chili was second with Diddy Debit in third place. The Touch-up Paint Stakes followed for 4/5 grade over 392m and here we saw Topshot Assassin, owned and trained by Di Seath from Taree salute the judge in 22.82, 4 ¼ lengths ahead of Risky Fella with Wisetown Lady taking out third place.
The Abernathy Education Centre Stakes for 4/5 grade over 314m saw Cashmere Whisper, owned and trained by Di Craig from Upper Lansdowne, scored by 2 ¾ lengths in 18.10 with Roman Supreme and Keyora filling the minor places. The final event for the day was the Taree Upholstery Stakes for 4/5 grade over 392m and here we saw the closest finish for the afternoon with Mystic Icon, trained at Melinga by John Farrell, just pipping Switch In Time on the post, the official margin being a head in the time of 22.71. Cosmic Keno had to settle for third place.
Taree race again on Sunday 22nd again in the twilight time-slot. (first race 4.00pm)
Race Meeting 10th December 2011
Taree held their final meeting for the year on Saturday in overcast but mainly fine conditions. A good crowd was on hand to witness some exciting racing. The feature events for the afternoon were the Blue Paws 5th grade Final over 392m which saw Tiri Dougie, owned and trained by Debbie Spurgin from Kempsey salute the judge in 22.66, 3 lengths ahead of Cosmic Keno with Witches Elbow third. The final of the Mid Coast Eggs Xmas Gift for n/g over the 537m journey was also contested, and here we saw Hooker’s Flyer also owned and trained by Debbie Spurgin hold out the fast finishing Elliot Reid (trained by Colin Caldwell from Muswellbrook) to win by ½ head in 31.30. Real Drive took out third place.
The afternoon started with the Merry Xmas To All Maiden over 314m and in a close finish Weiss Bar owned and trained by Ranald Dawes from Eagleton prevailed by a head in 18.74 with Cool Missy Cloud and Justrina Austin filling the minor places.The Townhead Fruit and Veg Maiden followed this time over 392m and here Switch In Time trained by Bob Glover from Nabiac was successful in 23.28, 3 ¾ lengths ahead of Loveable Cloud with Princess Tee Jay third. The Bushland Tavern Maiden over 314m was taken out in fine fashion by Playing It Cool, trained by Peter Neilson from Maitland, in 18.31, 8lengths ahead of Hard Sell with Murray’s Girl in third place.
In the Rocket Tools Stake for 5th grade over 537m, Jetta Bale trained by Robert Jones from Telegraph Point held on to win by a neck over the fast finishing Blazing Wok in 32.34 with Copper Charge third. The Brumby Lad At Stud Stakes for 4/5 grade over 314m saw local trainer Ron Wright successful with Bentroy who scored by 6 lengths in 18.32. Risky Tilly and Ebb and Flo filled the minor places.
The next for decision was the Opportunity 1-3 wins Stakes over 314m and here we saw Roman Supreme, owned and trained by Stan Towers from Glenthorne make it three in a row when he saluted the judge in 18.42, 2 ¾ lengths ahead of Miss Whiffen with Double Chilly in third spot. Race 8 on the program was the Local GBOTA Best 8 over 392m and here the ever consistent It’s Shine Chilli, owned and trained by Keith Schmitzer from Taree scored by 2 ¾ lengths in 22.48 ahead of Cashmere Storm and Self Destruction.
In the Taree Vet Hospital Best 8 over 314m Chilled Ice, owned and trained by Geoff and Fiona Stackman from Jones Island was first past the post in 18.27, 1 ¼ lengths ahead of Bombo Blue with Marvel Marni in third place. The Presidents Plate, for 4/5 grade over 537m saw River Road, owned and trained by Colin Lane from Singleton, successful in 31.57,4 ¾ lengths ahead of Freezer with Collison Sign third.
The final event for the afternoon, a 5th grade 314m race saw Southern Pixi trained at Coolongolook by Rick Milton salute the judge in 18.44, 2 ¼ lengths ahead of Shapely Tara with Miss Kimberley in third spot.

Race Meeting 3rd December 2011
Taree held a 12 race program on Saturday in sunny conditions with a breeze which made for a comfortable afternoon. There were 2 heats of the Supporter’s Club Novice, for 0-1 wins over the 537m (a regular monthly feature) the first of these was taken out by Blazing Wok, owned and trained by the Roche family from Kew, who scored by 1 ½ lengths in 32.41. Fergi Lee and Devine Amy filled the minor places. The second heat saw Binda Grace owned and trained by Kevin Smith from Shortland first past the post in 31.91, 3/4length ahead of Perfect Sense with Little Zin Zin in third spot. It’s great to see an increase in the noms for this distance!
The Local Bookmakers Stake for 5th grade over 314m saw local owner/ trainer, Stan Towers from Glenthorne, successful with Roman Supreme who covered the journey in 18.53, finishing 3 lengths ahead of Belltona with Blue Ninja a further 3 lengths away in third place.
There were 4 heats of the Blue Paws Sprint Series for 5th grade over 392m and in the first of these we saw Cosmic Keno, owned and trained by Helen Hanson from Nabiac salute the judge in 23.08, 4 ¼ lengths ahead of Cherokee Dreamer, with Houdini Star in third spot. The next heat saw Risky Fella for Geoff and Fiona Stackman from Jones Island first past the post in 22.97 with Watta Moose and Nellie Babe filling the minor places. Heat 3 went to Witches Elbow, trained at Gloucester by Julie Laurantus, who scored by a head in 22.82. Tiri Dougie and Red Perimo were the minor placegetters. The fourth heat saw Shaye’s Enforcer, trained by Arthur Turnbull from Collambatti, successful in 23.20, 1 length ahead of Detective Swift with Anticipation third.
The Ladle and One Marble Stakes, a Best 8 over 314m, saw Keep My Cool, owned and trained by Scott Kelly from Birmingham Gardens, first past the post in 18.42, 6 ¼ lengths ahead of Tiri Teddy with Cosmic Crow having to settle for third place. Race 9 on the program was the Brumby Lad at Stud Stakes, a Best 8 over 392m and here we saw Wallamba Nipper, trained at Nabiac by Bob Glover, hold of a strong challenge by It’s Shine Chili to score by ½ length in 22.75. Bokarm Storm was third.
Two heats of the Midcoast Eggs Christmas Gift were contested, for non-grade over 537m, and in the first of these Hooker’s Flyer, owned and trained by Debbie Spurgin from Kempsey saluted the judge in 31.28, 2 ¼ lengths ahead of Elliot Reid, with Bloss Sannette in third spot. In the second heat Harmony Doll, owned and trained by Roza Brown from Frederickton was first past the post in 31.48, 2 ¾ lengths ahead of Rie’s Girl with Where’s Drummer filling third place.
The last race for the afternoon was the Abernathy Education Centre Stakes for 4th grade over 314m and here we saw another local owner/trainer Diane Seath lead in the winner when Lara Anne scored by ¾ length in 18.38. Bombo Blue and Octane Rebel filled the minor places.
Taree race again next Saturday with the finals of both the Blue Paws and the Christmas Gift to be contested so we should witness some exciting racing!
Race Meeting 13th November 2011
Taree held an eleven race program on Sunday in overcast but warm conditions; a good crowd was on hand to witness some excellent racing. The feature for the afternoon was the Final of the Blue Paws Maiden series over 314m and in a close finish Diver’s Gift (the only runner not Blue Paws reg.) owned and trained by Darryl Diver from Medowie prevailed to score by a length in 18.52. Fancy Love and Multi Manalishi filled the minor places.
The afternoon started with the Everyday Living Maiden over 314m and in this Worry Rock, owned and trained in Taree by Des McGeachie, gave no cause for concern to win by 7 ¼ lengths in 18.50, ahead of Fairy Floss Girl with Robyn Sparkles in third spot. The Taree Upholstery Maiden over 392m followed and in this the Peter Honnery (Clarence Town) trained Terese saluted the judge in 22.93, 7 ½ lengths ahead of Dollar Train with Misty Star in third place.
In the Bushland Tavern Stakes, a 5th grade over 314m, Mobhi Warrior, owned and trained by Bill Alley from Taree built on his second placing from last week to score by a neck in 18.54 with Proof Of Life and Risky Tilly filling the minor places. In the first of the Opportunity Stakes (for 1-3 wins) over 392m Risky Fella owned and trained by Geoff and Fiona Stackman from Jones Island was first past the post in 23.00, ¾ length ahead of Topshot Assassin with Hypo Girl in third place.
The Supporters Club Best 8, over 314m saw Lara Anne, owned and trained by Di Seath from Taree salute the judge in 18.22, 2 ¼ lengths ahead of Marvel Marni, with Octane Rebel in third place. The second Opportunity Stakes over 392m was taken out by Anticipation, owned and trained by Peter Young from Tarro. She covered the journey in 22.92, finishing 2 ½ lengths ahead of Rooftop Assassin with Youneek Saphire in third spot.
The Presidents Plate (a regular monthly feature for 4-5 grade over 537m) was the next for decision and here we saw Cosmic Kane owned by George Hanson from Nabiac and trained by his wife Helen, work his way to the front down the back and power on to win by 8 ½ lengths in 31.35(hand-timed). Bee For Brett and Harmony Doll filled the minor places.
Veteran trainer Keith Schmitzer (80+) showed he still knows how to put the polish on a greyhound by producing It’s Shine Chilli to win for the second week in a row. The daughter of Bit Chilli-She Be Nimble scored by 3 lengths in 22.64 ahead of Queue Jumper with Cashmere Storm taking third place. The Taree Wingham Produce Stakes for 4-5 grade over 314m went the way of Bentroy, owned and trained by Ron Wright from Cundletown, He scored by 2 ¾ lengths in 18.51 over Cherokee Lady with Nellie Babe taking out third place. The last for the day was the Townhead Fruit & Vege Stakes for 5th grade over 314m and in this Southern Pixi, trained by Rick Milton from Coolongolook, was first past the post in 18.57, a head in front of Blue Ninja with Belltona 5 lengths away in third place.
Taree race again on the 3rd of December with heats of the Mid Coast Eggs Christmas Gift over 537m (FFA) and heats of a Blue Paws 5th grade over 392m programmed.

Taree held a 12 race program on Saturday on a warm spring afternoon. There were 4 heats of the Blue Paws Maiden contested over 314m, the first of which was taken out by Multi Manalishi, trained at Clarence Town by Peter Honnery. The daughter of Where’s Pedro won by 8 lengths in 18.42. Miss Butter Cake and Miss Mellie filled the minor places. The next heat saw Rosy Mile owned and trained by Bob White from Coolongolook salute the judge in 18.56, 6 ¼ lengths ahead of Diver’s Gift with Hard Sell in third place. Heat 3 saw the Arthur Turnbull (Collombatti) trained Wind Chaser first past the post in 18.33, 12 lengths ahead of Justin Gaylord and Shaharanee was third. The final heat was taken out by Angry Abbey owned and trained by Neville Stokes from Tuncurry, scoring by 7 ¾ lengths in 18.50. Fancy Love and Gillieston Lass filled the minor places. All but one of the runners in the final are Blue Paws registered which is unusual to see!!

The Townhead Fruit & Vegetable Stakes for 5th grade over 314m saw the Stanley Towers (Glenthorne) owned and trained Shapely Tara salute the judge in 18.29,4 ¼ lengths ahead of Belltona with Mobhi Warrior having his first run for almost 12 months in third place. The Taree GBOTA Battlers Stake over 392m followed and here we saw Miss Risky, owned and trained by Fiona & Geoff Stackman from Jones Island, first past the post in 22.77, 3 ½ lengths ahead of Sally’s Command with Rooftop Assassin in third spot.
The Robert Brandolini Media Services Stake was the next for decision, a 3-4 grade over 392m, and here we saw It’s Shine Chilli, owned and trained by Keith Schmitzer the veteran trainer from Taree salute the judge in 22.63, 1 ¾ lengths ahead of Foresaken Party with Cashmere Storm in third place. In the Bushland Tavern Best 8, Queue Jumper owned and trained by Lisa Hutton from Coolongolook scored by ½ length over Cosmic Crow in 18.44. Youneek Jewel was third. The Rocket Tools Stake followed for 5th grade over 392m and this was taken out by Lonesome Betty, owned and trained by Frank Attard from Cranebrook in 22.94, 1 ½ lengths ahead of Cherokee Dreamer with Tiri Dougie third.
The Local Bookmaker Stakes was for 5th grade over 314m and in this Roman Supreme gave Stan Towers from Glenthorne a double for the afternoon when he finished 2 ¼ lengths ahead of Cherokee Magic in the time of 18.56 with Southern Pixi running third. The final event for the day was the Taree & Wingham Produce Stakes for 5th grade over 392m and in this local trainer Helen Hanson from Nabiac was successful with Cosmic Keno who scored by 3 ¾ lengths in 22.77. Rare Coins and Dungog Dazza filled the minor places.
Taree race again on Sunday 12th Nov with the final of the Blue Paws and the Presidents Plate as part of the program.
On a day of uncertain weather conditions, Taree was lucky in that we only had a shower whilst kennelling was taking place and after that it was reasonably fine with some sunny patches. The members of the Bushland Tavern Social Club were in attendance to enjoy the racing and have a sausage sizzle.
The feature event for the afternoon was the final of the Supporters Club Spring Challenge, for 4/5 grade over 392m, and in this Uno Garner owned and trained by David Smith from Lake Innes saluted the judge in 23.00, ¾ length ahead of Octane Rebel with Abbey Baz in third place.
The day started with the Mid Coast Eggs Maiden over 314m and here Zigarina owned and trained by Greg Guy and his wife from Beresfield who have returned to greyhound racing after a break of about thirty years was first past the post in18.59, a half head in front of Worry Rock with Can Do Kimmy in third spot. The Local Bookmaker Maiden followed, this time over 392m and here we saw Triples, trained by Kane Heuston from Deep Creek successful in 23.10,2 lengths ahead of Houdini Star with Princess Tee Jay in third position.
The Taree Upholstery Maiden followed and in this Tiri Frankie gave Kane Heuston his second winner for the afternoon, saluting the judge in 18.60, Hard Sell and Flaming Black filled the minor places.
The Bushland Tavern Social Club Stake was a 5th grade 392m event, and Bombing Raid, owned and trained by Bob Sargent from Taree was first past the post in 23.18, 1 ¾ lengths ahead of Fergi lee with the unlucky Gadae pip in third place. The Supporters Club Novice for 0-1 wins over 537m saw Bit Salsa, owned by Roxanne and trained by John Farrell from Melinga step up in distance and score by 6 lengths in 31.58 over Just Joking and Tallawudjah Sky.
The Townhead Fruit & Vege Stakes, a 5th grade over 392m saw the Garry Streatfield trained Velles saluted the judge in 22.83, 3 ½ lengths ahead ov Jetta Bale with Aimee’s Joy in third spot. The Bushland Tavern Best 8 over 3921m was the next for decision and in this Cashmere Storm, owned and trained by Di Craig from Upper Lansdowne was first past the post in 22.63, ¾ length ahead of Blue Amigo with Uno Bella Baz in third place.
The Taree Vet Hospital Stakes a 3-4 grade over 314m saw Chilled Ice owned and trained by Geoff and Fiona Stackman from Jones Island kick off a treble for them by winning in 18.38, by a head from No Diamonds with Jiggy Jig in third place. The Presidents Plate, for 4/5 grade over 537m, saw a close finish where Where’s Drummer trained by Jeanette Roche from Kew prevailed by a neck in 31.59 ahead of Freezer with Rie’s Girl third.
The Taree Wingham Produce Stakes, for 5th grade over 314m saw Cherokee Dreamer for the Stackmans score by 2 ¾ lengths in 18.50 ahead of Hypo Girl with Miss Whiffen in third place.. The final event for the afternoon was the Everyday Living Stakes for 4/5 grade over 314m and Cherokee Lady brought up the third leg of the treble for Geoff and Fiona Stakman by winning in 18.35, 1 length ahead of Shabang Jack with Only By Instinct in third spot.
Taree have a break now and are back racing on November 5th.

On an overcast Saturday afternoon, the Supporters Club of the Taree Greyhound Racing Assoc. staged a ‘Relay For Life” fundraising event during the running of the 12 race program. A great many of the great crowd in attendance joined in the spirit of the day and wore purple shirts or hats or both, The pink racing rugs were swapped for purple ones, kindly made by local trainer Di Seath and the Racing Club donated $10 for every dog that the purple rug beat home with the final tally over $400!
The first event for the day was the Cheer The Purple Rug Stakes for 4/5 grade over 314m and here we saw Chilled Ice owned by Geoff and Fiona Stackman from Jones Island and trained by Geoff score by 3 ¼ lengths in 18.27 with Harry Tweed and Cuddle Me Rosie filling the minor places. The Everyday Living Maiden Final over 314m followed and in this Cool Tallowood owned and trained by Brian Smoothy from Killawarra managed to avoid trouble and saluted the judge in 18.29, 3 ¼ lengths ahead of Cherokee Magic with Miss Whiffen in third place.
The Supporters Club Novice, a regular monthly feature for 0-1 wins over 537m saw Sneaky Wilson owned and trained by Kerry Schmitzer from Taree ‘sneak’ away from the field to be first past the post in 31.70, 7 ½ lengths ahead of Gold Viking with Miss Brahms in third spot.
There were five heats of the Rocket Tools Silver Bullet for n/g over 392m contested and the first of these saw the Merv Turner owned and Narelle Turner (Mt George) trained Tiri Cody successful in 22.70, 3 ½ lengths in front of Zaccary Right with Mr Devious in third place. Heat 2 saw a close finish with It’s Shine Chili, owned and trained by veteran Taree trainer Keith Schmitzer, prevail by 1 ¼ lengths over Blue Amigo with Velles in third place. The third heat saw Roger’s Hitman, owned by Roger Sandes and trained by Susan Moore from Barraba salute the judge in 22.57, 2 ¼ lengths ahead of Borehole Boy with Drinks for Me in third place. Roger’s Hitman was the jackpot dog for the day so connections scored a bonus!! Heat 4 was taken out in fine fashion by Go Jessie’s Girl, owned and trained by Norm Becroft from Kurrajong who covered the journey in 22.65 with Freshin Up and Wallamba Nipper filling the minor places. The final heat saw Lord Stimo, owned and trained by Mick McGuire from Taree continue on his winning was, scoring by 4 ¾ lengths in 22.55 ahead of Uno Bella Baz with Spartan King filling third place.
Three heats of the Relay For Life (replacing the Country Challenge) for n/g over 537m were contested with the first being taken out by Supreme Odessa, owned by Julie Healey and trained by former local girl Natasha Benhard(nee Algie) successful in 30.97, 5 ¾ lengths ahead of My Boy Caleb with Go Mini Mouse in third place. The second heat saw Tadmore Gizmo, owned by V Astbury and trained by Simon Ma from Forestville salute the judge in 30.99, 4 ½ lengths ahead of Eagleton Lad with Right Amount in third place. The third heats saw Natasha Benhard lead in her second winner for the afternoon when Causing Kaos (owned and trained by Natasha) was first past the post in 30.95, 4 lengths in front of I’m Mighty Magic with Destined To Be in third place.
The final race for the afternoon was the Local Bookmakers Stake for 4/5 grade over 392m and Tiri Georgio gave the Turner combination their second for the day by scoring in 22.99, 2 ½ lengths in front of Shimano Warrior with Tuborg Girl third.
Taree race again on Monday 3rd October with both the Relay For Life Final ($4000 to the winner) and the Silver Bullet Final ($3000) to be contested.
Taree held a 12 race program on a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon with an excellent crowd in attendance with a lot of new faces which was good to see. The day started with 6 heats of the Everyday Living Maiden over 314m, the first of these was won by Bit Salsa, owned by Roxanne Farrell from Melinga and trained by husband John, she scored by ¾ length in 18.49 followed Taree’s Country Connection
by Hypo Girl and Blue Ninja. The second heat was hand-timed due to a malfunction in the sensor, this saw Cherokee Lass, having her first race start, owned by Geoff and Fiona Stackman from Jones Island first past the post in 19.00 with Tipsy McStagger and Star of Flamingo filling the minor places. In Heat 3 Red Hot Double another debutante, owned and trained by Larry Croker from Lansdowne saluted the judge in 18.29, 4 ½ lengths ahead of Diver’s Sun with Flaming Black in third place. The next saw Geoff and Fiona Stackman successful again, this time with Cherokee Magic who was first past the post in 18.29, 3 lengths ahead of Cool Tallowood with Tallawudjah Sky in third place. Heat 5 was taken out by Miss Whiffen, owned and trained by Robert Jones from Telegraph Point who score by 6 lengths in 18.36. Irish Flyer and Plenty Of Give filled the minor places. In the final heat Roxanne and John Farrell lead in their second winner for the afternoon when Doubly Chilly saluted the judge in 18.50, 5 ¾ lengths ahead of Houdini Star with Hard Sell in third place.
The Nabiac Hotel Stake for 5th grade over 537m was next for decision and here we saw Peg Leg Arthur owned and trained by Kerry Barrass from Yarravel make it two from two by winning in 31.82, 1 ¼ lengths ahead of Youneek Saphire with No Matter in third place. The Bushland Tavern Stakes for ¾ grade over 314m followed and in this the David Burgess (Arcadia Vale) trained Valley Mist was successful, scoring by1/2 length over Youneek Jewel and Borehole Boy was third.
The Presidents Plate, a regular monthly event (normally 4/5 grade but this week a straight 4th grade) over 537m saw Wallamba Jacqui, trained by Bob Glover from Nabiac lead most of the way and win by 1 ¾ lengths in 31.44, Phantom Black and Rie’s Girl filled the minor places. The Townhead Fruit and Veg. Stake for 4th Grade over 392m saw Lord Stimo owned and trained by Mick McGuire from Taree salute the judge in 22.48, 4 ½ lengths ahead of It’s Show Time with Cosmic Kane in third place.
Race 11 on the program was the Rocket Tools Stake for 5th grade over 314m and here we saw another local winner when Well That’s It, owned and trained by Michael Wicks from Taree was first past the post in 18.33, a head in front of Cosmic Express with Roman Supreme only ½ length away in third place. The day finished with the Taree GBOTA stakes for 5th grade over 392m and this race gave Mick McGuire a double for the day when Freshen Up saluted the judge in 22.74, 4 ¾ lengths ahead of Neil’s Treasure with Our Cool Zac in third place.
Taree race again next Saturday with heats of the Relay For Life (n/g 537m with $4000 to the winner of the final on Oct. 3rd) and heats of the Taree Silver Bullet (n/g 392m with $3000 to the winner of the final on Oct 3rd)
Taree held an 11 race program on Sunday, with the weather forecast for more rain, which we had up until kennelling started but then the sun broke through and lasted for the afternoon although a couple of black clouds threatened but luckily passed over. The track was on the heavy side but the times were reasonable
The feature event for the day was the final of the Nabiac Hotel Maiden over 392m and this was taken out by the favourite, Aimee’s Joy, owned and trained by Terry Hickson from South Kempsey in 23.26, finishing 5 ½ lengths ahead of Double Chilly and Our Cool Zac was third.
The first event for the afternoon, the Taree Wingham Produce Stake, for maidens over 314m saw Cosmic Express, owned and trained by Irene Wales from Firefly score by 1 ½ lengths in 18.85 with Small Gypsy Rose and Miss Rogan filling the minor places. The Manning Tackle Stakes followed, a maiden over 392m and here we saw first-starter, Peg Leg Arthur owned and trained by Kerry Barrass from Yarravel leave the rest of the field behind to score by 19 lengths in 23.16. Tiri Sami and Tallawudjah Sky were the minor placegetters.
The Keen 2 Screen Stakes, a mixed event over 314m saw Roman Supreme, owned and trained by Stan Towers from Glenthorne salute the judge in 18.42, 1 ½ lengths ahead of Tilly’s Twist Top with Red Perimo in third spot. The Brumby Lad @ Stud Stakes, a 5th grade over 314m saw Risky Tilly for the Wall?Croker combination from Lansdowne first past the post in 18.95, ½ length ahead of Shapely Tara with Christi’s Cool in third place. The Taree Upholstery Blue Paws Stake for 5th grade over 392m saw visiting trainer Roger Sandes from Jilliby successful with Rare Coins (picking up the $1000 bonus for being Blue Paws registered) who finished 1 ¾ lengths ahead of Cashmere Lady in 23.12 with Cosmic Keno in third place.
The Presidents Plate, a regular monthly feature over 537m for 4/5th grade saw the Watson/Wall/Croker combination from Lansdowne successful with No Matter who covered the distance in 32.06, finishing 2 lengths ahead of Wallamba Jacqui with Youneek Saphire taking out third place. The Everyday Living Stake, for 4/5th grade over 392m saw the Garry Streatfield trained Hidden Riches salute the judge in 23.07, ½ length ahead of Jak Jak, with Three Bob in third spot.
The Rocket Tools Best 8 over 314m was taken out by Rum Rage, trained at Collombatti by Arthur Turnbull, scoring by 1 length in 18.52. Tiri Teddy and Lord Stimo filled the minor places. In the Mid Coast Eggs Stake, for 5th grade over 314m , No Diamonds gave the Wall/Watson/Croker combination their third winner for the afternoon when she scored by 2 lengths in 18.70. Bank The Gold and Sarah’s Secret filled the minor places. The final event for the afternoon was the Taree GBOTA Stake for 5th grade over 392m and in this Sally’s Command, trained by Bob Glover from Nabiac was first past the post, scoring by ½ length in 23.41, ahead of Freshin Up with Nintendo Bones third.
Taree have a break now until 18th September, with the track closed till 11th to allow for returfing in preparation for the Country Challenge heats which are coming up on 24th September!
Taree held a 12 race program on Saturday on a lovely sunny winter’s day. A good crowd was in attendance and some exciting racing was witnessed. Local trainers were successful in many of the races with one getting a double and another a treble! The day started with 4 heats of the Nabiac Hotel Maiden over 392m, the first was taken out by local trainer Brian Smoothy from Killawarra with Tearaway Bet who scored by 5.3/4 lengths in 23.19 with Tall Ken and Princess Tee Jay filling the minor places. The second heat gave Brian Smoothy a double for the day when Our Cool Zac saluted the judge in 23.30, 4 ¾ lengths ahead of Double Chilly and Tallawudjah Sky was third. The next heat saw Diver’s Kiki, owned and trained by Darryl Diver from Medowie was first past the post in 23.35, 2 ¾ lengths ahead of Houdini Star and Cowgirl Bindi took third spot. The final heat was taken out by Aimee’s Joy, owned and trained by Terry Hickson from South Kempsey in 22.97, 8 ¾ lengths ahead of Pretty Boy Floyd and Fastback Shelby was third.
The Supporters Club Novice ( a regular monthly feature) for 0-1 wins over 537m (maidens given preference) saw Terry Hickson lead in his second winner for the afternoon when Miss Tandur won by 2 lengths in 31.82 ahead of Kardiak Kihael with Sneaky Wilson taking third place. The Everyday Living Stake for 5th grade over 392m saw a close finish with Cosmic keno prevailing for Helen Hanson from Nabiac, covering the journey in 22.83, 1 length ahead of Miss Webster with Topshot Assassin a head away third.
The Local Bookmakers Stake for 5th grade over 537m saw the Wall/Watson/Croker combination from Lansdowne successful with Freezer who scored by 15 ¼ lengths in 31.19. All For Chance and Princess Ava filled the minor places. The Mid Coast Eggs Stake , a Best 8 over 392m gave the Wall/Croker combination their second winner for the day with Blue Amigo defeating Cashmere Storm by 4 ¼ lengths in 22.58 with It’s Show Time taking out third spot.
The Bushland Tavern Stakes, another Best 8 this time over 537m saw the track record holder, Bloss Sannette start a very short favourite and after a slow beginning work her way through the pack and go on to win by 6 ½ lengths in 31.18. No Matter and Mexican Beans were gallant in defeat. The Rocket Tools Stake, a Best 8, this time over 314m saw Jiggy Jig, owned and trained by Robert Jones from Telegraph Point and It’s Shine Chili owned and trained by veteran trainer Keith Schmitzer from Taree dead-heat for first in 18.19. Ruby Rock had to settle for third place.
The Keen 2 Screen Stakes a 5th grade 314m event followed and No Diamonds gave the Wall/Watson/Croker combination their third winner for the afternoon, scoring by 1 ¼ lengths in 18.41 ahead of Bentroy and Sarah’s Secret. The final event on the program was the Taree Wingham Produce Stakes for 5th grade over 314m and Drinks For Me gave owner/trainer Di Seath from Taree reason to have a drink when she saluted the judge in 18.50, 2 ½ lengths ahead of Risky Tilly with Miss Chief Maker in third place.
Taree race again next Sunday with the Final of the Nabiac Maiden to be decided.
